Refreshing Summer Treats for Persons Living with Dementia

With our area currently in the midst of a heat wave, staying cool and hydrated is a challenge for everyone, especially those living with dementia. Dehydration can be particularly tricky as the brain sometimes struggles to signal thirst effectively (Alzheimer's Society, 2023). These delicious and easy-to-make recipes not only help with hydration but also bring joy and refreshment. Don't forget to keep encouraging plenty of water throughout the day!

 

Blueberry Banana Smoothie

  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 1 banana
  • 2 cups frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt

Blend all ingredients until smooth and creamy. Pour into a chilled glass and enjoy this cool, fruity delight!

 

Strawberry Sunshine Popsicles

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries, sliced
